I want to combine reporting and storytelling with technology to produce sustainable and better journalism products.
I’m a data journalist at PRI.org and the founder of DataN, a customized data journalism training package for newsrooms. DataN aims to help small and medium newsrooms with limited resources to produce more engaging, credible and comprehensible journalism by using the power of data.
My journalism journey started at Malaysia’s most visited independent news website Malaysiakini.com in 2005 as a reporter. The experience and knowledge there brought me to New York University’s Studio 20, a Master’s program specializing in new media and digital innovation, under the Fulbright scholarship.
After completing the program, a fellowship helped me to join the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism where I developed DataN. Then I was selected as the 2015 Google Journalism Fellow which sent me to PRI.org.
Journalism in Making is a personal platform to share my portfolio but also the thinking behind those works.
